Trash + Love: Aurora Robson
http://youtu.be/sVNInv8BkEw
This is the first full semester course in "Sculpture + Intercepting the Waste Stream" as designed and being co-taught by Aurora Robson, Mccoll Center for Visual Arts, Environmental Artist-in-Residence. As an advocate for plastic pollution awareness, Robson is the founding artist of Project Vortex, an international collective of artists, designers and architects who also work with plastic debris.
In partnership with Central Piedmont Community College, Professor Ashley Knight and Aurora Robson will work together to introduce environmentally conscious techniques and processes to young art students.
A major community service project at, Anita Stroud Park, will provide students with a collection of material that has been removed from the "waste stream." Group discussions and critiques, video screenings, and readings will complement studio time. The class culminates with a pop-up exhibit of the works created by the students at the Double Oaks Masonic Outreach Center on May 7th at 6pm.
This exciting exhibit will also function as a silent auction/fundraiser. Proceeds from the sale of the students' sculptures will go to continue cleaning up local waterways.
